Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
